Varied Gifts of the Strand
They ride on u-shaped kites and play
on surf boards, muscles strained.
run over waves, aerial ballet,
would-be surfers entertained.
Expanse of sand invites the feet,
skin basks in sunny skies;
clues left where surf and sandbar meet,
gift fascinated eyes.
On the beach, in smaller scale,
an orange bit of spiral shell,
eroded by surf's wave and gale,
poises past the swell.
Fragment of home of citizen
of sea, glistening and wet,
on edge, seeming alive again,
a temporary pirouette.
Voluminous pounding of the sea,
dramatic show in sea and air,
the beach delivers generously,
to all who venture there.
