Soil and Farmer

The soil that we prepare and fertilize
brings forth the food and fiber that is planned.
Attentive eyes behold what multiplies
when soil and farmer join to bless the land.

And, so it is with what God would produce;
He sends the word into a needy earth.
Prepared and seeking, some His message choose,
while crowds pass by, not conscious of its worth.

I'm asking now, "Oh, Lord, enrich my soil;
break up the stones that hold Your love at bay,
that I would bring forth harvest from my toil,
with joy to share of peace and love Your way."
