My Startling Friend
Oops! Out the corner of my eye,
a flash that makes me start,
in the grass and rocks they lie;
no harm will they impart.
Some sellers of insurance though,
find in them a ready aid,
with cartooney cuteness show,
endorsement through words played.
Gecko sounding like the name,
of an insurance advertised,
so that may be his claim to fame,
but, for me, for this is prized.
The bugs among the grass and rocks,
that bite me or eat my plants,
he eats before they run amok,
gives pretty flowers a chance.
If you should jump with shock and fright,
and think him harmful, please,
remember geckos do not bite,
unless you are bugs or fleas.
